Game Boy Advance is 15 years old today

The original GBA model wasn’t perfect; it didn’t even have a backlight, which made playing it in the dark a real pain:

As I recall, I had the transparent model at first:

Once I upgrade to the later released black GBA SP, which came in a really cool clamshell design (making it pretty diminutive) and with a proper backlight, it was a whole different ball game:

I still think this is one of Nintendo’s slickest console designs to date

And the Game Boy Micro (which was actually still a GBA, and even smaller than the GBA SP) was also a thing of real beauty, whatever variation you went for:

I never owned one of these, but I really wish I had.

I personally think the GBA had one of the best games libraries of all time, with an extremely satisfying and varied selection of titles, and certainly for a handheld. A few of my favourites are:

Advance Wars

Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire

WarioWare, Inc: Mega Microgame$!

Metroid Fusion
